On the Horde one side Blood Elf Leader Lor'themar from hgdgsvhgvuj's blog

In Stormwind Human leaders Genn Greymane Mathias Shaw, and Turalyon discuss the current situation of the Alliance, with WoTLK Gold Shaw talking about the time-skip also the issue that Stormwind's King of Stormwind, Anduin, has not yet returned after his departure from the region at the end of Shadowlands. Turalyon is believed to be is ruling this Alliance in his stead.

On the Horde one side Blood Elf Leader Lor'themar talks with Nightborne leader Thalysrra commenting on how several years have gone by since the Horde's forces returned from the realms of death and the relative peace that has been maintained since the time. It's then revealed that Lor'themar and Thalysrra have married in between two events: Shadowlands and Dragonflight as the two disagreeing on who should propose to whom. Players in the game's community are slightly disappointed not having the opportunity to be there for the wedding but are excited at the prospect of the Horde leaders regardless.

It's important to note that the time-skip isn't "official" as of yet. While NPC characters on both the Horde and Alliance on the Dragonflight Alpha do refer to the fact that "several times" have been passed since the heroes of Azeroth returned from the Shadowlands However, the dialogue in the alpha game is susceptible to change and may not be included in the final version of the game.

Whatever the case, a greater than normal time lag in the timeline of the game would be a pleasant change of the pace. As any WoW player is aware, having Azeroth (and at times all realities) be under threat by the World of Warcraft -ending threat every two years when a new expansion rolls around is quite absurd at times. It has been speculated for years that presence in the Shadowlands might have some kind of effects on time, however it's not known if Shadowlands itself is responsible for the time delay or the reason is that Blizzard simply wanted to create more time for the next chapter in the game's story.

The Dragonflight beta is now in full swing, with Blizzard taking a different way of testing this time around as compared to testing cycles for earlier expansions. The expansion is currently slated for release by the close at the end of this year.
